Actor
and social activist Renu Desai recently addressed intense criticism from social media users and sections of the media during a press interaction in Hyderabad that focused on street dog welfare. What was intended to be a conversation about dog-safety shifted when personal questions and insensitive remarks began dominating the discussion. Known for her outspoken nature on animal welfare, Renu Desai spoke about cruelty toward stray animals and the need for balanced, compassionate approaches to public health. However, the situation turned ugly ated when some individuals and online commentators brought up her previous marriage to actor-politician Pawan Kalyan and made disturbing references to her children.
Renu Desai Hits Back at Trolls, Urges Them Not to Drag Pawan Kalyan and Children Into Pro-Stray Dog Debate
During the interaction, Renu Desai expressed her disappointment over what she described as selective outrage. She pointed out that while incidents involving stray animals receive widespread attention, equally serious dangers to
human life, such as mosquito-borne illnesses, road accidents, violent crimes, and assaults are not talked about much. Tensions went further when a man attacked her verbally at the press conference.
Following the event, Renu Desai took to Instagram to clarify her position and respond to the misinformation circulating online and said she is not against the press but angry at the man. The actor-activist also called out trolls who brought up her ex-husband, Pawan Kalyan, and their children,
Akira Nandan and Aadhya. She hit out at miscreants and said,
“I have seen some comments on my way home. How correct is it to comment on my personal life? You’re saying that’s why Pawan Kalyan left me, that I am cranky. Do I get any money while fighting for street dogs? I am not even fighting for them; I am fighting for human life. And you’re making such disgusting comments. You even said I would learn a lesson if my children died from dog bites. Why would you say that? I am a mother who knows the value of life.”
Renu turned off her comments while posting the clarification. Renu Desai and Pawan Kalyan were married from 2009 to 2012. Akira was born in 2004, while Aadhya was born in 2010. The couple filed for divorce in 2011.
