Dilip Kumar’s deteriorating health over the years had deeply worried his first heroine, Kamini Kaushal. The two created a memorable on-screen partnership in films like Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar, Shabnam,
and Arzoo. The veteran actress passed away at the age of 98 due to age-related illness.

During one of Dilip Sahab’s hospitalisations in August 2017, Kamini had told TOI, “It is very sad, he is suffering so much.” Alongside, she expressed her prayers for his recovery: “Dilip Sahab has been ailing for so many years. Even his sisters who live in the US have come to see him. My prayers are with him for a speedy recovery.”
All About Their Bond
As per reports, Dilip Kumar had fallen in love with her during the making of Shaheed. They even considered marriage, but Kamini’s brother opposed the relationship. Before meeting Dilip Kumar, Kamini had married her late sister’s husband to care for her sister’s child, making it difficult for her to leave that household. Her brother had reportedly even warned Dilip Kumar to end the relationship.Though they drifted apart, they remained fond of each other. Kamini reflected, “So many decades have passed. Everybody has a place in life and then we let go. We made a good pair and did good work. The public liked to see us do films together.”She praised his craft, saying she admired how naturally he performed. His mastery of Urdu always impressed her: “His flowery vocabulary and diction were so natural. It is not as if he spoke that way to impress you. Respect for Saira Banu’s Devotion
Kamini also acknowledged Saira Banu’s unwavering dedication toward her husband: “It is nice how she celebrates his birthdays and invites the film industry to meet him. He always looks happy and well-groomed. She is also taking care of his property matters.”At that time, Dilip Kumar’s brothers were alive and involved in a property dispute. Both later passed away due to Covid-19 in 2020.
