Deepika Padukone was recently spotted outside Maddock Films' office, leading to rumours of her joining the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. However, the actress is reportedly in talks to star opposite Vicky
Kaushal in Mahavatar. The mythological epic is being directed by Amar Kaushik. Announced in November 2024, the film is apparently in its pre-production stage. But details about the casting of female leads have been kept under wraps.
Deepika Padukone in talks for Mahavatar?
Spilling beans about Deepika's involvement, a production source told
Mid-Day, "The team has been looking for someone who can bring gravitas and emotional depth to the role written opposite Parashurama. Deepika fits that space perfectly. Conversations have begun, but they are still at an early stage. She is among the top names the studio has engaged with."And while the story focuses on Parashurama,
Mahavatar's female lead has a strong character graph. "Amar Kaushik has been clear from the beginning that the character must have equal footing in the narrative," the source added.

Amar Kaushik on why Vicky Kaushal was cast
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with
Zoom, Amar Kaushik recently revealed why Vicky Kaushal had been cast for
Mahavatar. The filmmaker revealed, "He has been an AD. He assisted Anurag (Kashyap) sir too. So, since then, I wanted to do something with Vicky.
Kabhi aisa nahi hua tha ki main Mahavatar banaunga bhi. Ye aapke dimaag mein rehta hi ki yaar aisi kahaani aayegi, (par) kon hoga vaha tak toh aap pohochte nahi ho. And since I don't know when, suddenly it occurred to me that this film needs a person who has purity, who looks very pure, who has angst, yet has a very deep meaning in his eyes and in the way he talks."Stay tuned to this space for more updates!
