Suriya
and Trisha Krishnan's Karuppu is doing well at the box office. After facing a delay, the film was theatrically released on May 15, clashing with Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Despite that, the movie has earned Rs 23.40 crore in India and Rs 66.04 globally within two days of its theatrical run. Amid this, singer Chinmayi Sripada has revealed that she dubbed for Trisha in the RJ Balaji directorial. The singer expressed gratitude to the filmmaker for giving her an opportunity. In a tweet that was shared on X, Chinmayi revealed that she was 'afraid' to share that she dubbed in Karuppu. Wondering why? Let's find out!
Chinmayi Sripada on dubbing for Trisha in Karuppu
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Chinmayi opened up about dubbing for Trisha in
Karuppu. The singer revealed that she has known director RJ Balaji and his wife for a long time and called them 'lovely people'. She further shared that RJ Balaji's life is a story of girt and determination. Based on her experience with
Leo, the singer was scared for the director of what the pushbacks could be because of her involvement with
Karuppu.
"I remember crying buckets dubbing a couple of scenes in the film - it was a massive trigger, almost like I saw everything play out from the past, on the big screen," she wrote. The singer thanked the filmmaker for letting her dub for the Karuppu actress. "I hope Karuppu saami will help me work in my home ground, without fear and work without having to be scared of what will happen next," added Chinmayi. On a concluding note, the singer hoped God helped unban her and the rest who have been banned from working for years.
Why was Chinmayi Sripada banned?
Tamil Nadu Dubbing Union banned Chinmayi in 2018 after she spoke about s*xual harassment in the industry. During the MeToo Movement, the singer had named dubbing union president Radha Ravi. Despite that, she dubbed for Trisha in Lokesh Kanagaraj's
Leo, which was released in 2023. Back then, the union had reportedly condemned the filmmaker for using a banned artist for his film. He even had to pay Rs 50,000 fine before the release of
Leo, which also starred Thalapathy Vijay.
