Meta-owned popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that could solve a common problem -- too many unread messages. The app is testing an AI tool powered by Meta AI which will let users summarise multiple unread chats at once. This means you will soon be able to catch up on all your messages, especially when you open WhatsApp after a long gap. Right now, if you miss messages on WhatsApp, you have to open every conversation one by one and read through them. This can take time, especially if you are part of multiple groups or busy chats. With this new feature, the Meta-owned app wants to make things faster and simpler. You will get a short summary of all unread chats in one place. The feature has been spotted
in recent beta updates on both Android and iOS. "Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.15.10.71 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows users to generate private summaries of their unread chats," WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp reported. What Is WhatsApp Plus? According to the screenshots shared in the report, the summaries will be generated using something called Private Processing. This system ensures that messages are handled in a secure environment and neither WhatsApp nor its parent company Meta can read the content of your chats."Private Processing generates a secure summary of unread messages. In particular, it processes the content in a way that preserves privacy, while still delivering a clear overview of the conversation," WABetaInfo said.In simple words, the AI reads your messages to create a summary, but it does so in a way that keeps your data protected. The instant messaging app has already started testing chat summaries for individual conversations in some regions. In that version, users can open a chat and tap a 'summarise' button to get a quick overview. Now, WhatsApp is taking it a step further by bringing summaries for multiple chats together. This is where the feature becomes more useful. Instead of summarising chats one by one, you will get a combined summary of all unread messages. This can save a lot of time, especially when you open WhatsApp after a long gap.
WhatsApp To Add New Way To Delete Messages After They Are Read
Another important point is that this feature will be optional. Users will have to enable it from settings if they want to use AI summaries. With one tap, you will be able to see what you missed across conversations. This gives users more control over how their data is used."This feature will add a new entry point directly in the inbox containing unread messages. Here, users will be able to easily get a summary of all unread chats. If users tap this button, WhatsApp will generate a summary using Private Processing and present an overview of all unread conversations," the report said.As of now, the feature is still under development and not available to the public. It is being tested in beta versions, and a wider rollout is expected in the future once testing is complete. There is no official timeline yet but it is clear that WhatsApp is actively working on making this feature ready.
