In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Madhuri Dixit, who is currently promoting Mrs Deshpande, looked back fondly at her collaborations with Shah Rukh Khan, calling him a 'great romantic hero' and revealing which of their films remain closest to her heart.

Talking about her favourite films with Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri said, “I think it'll easily be Devdas and Dil To Pagal Hai - two movies.” She then added that one more film stands out for very different reasons. “Actually also Anjaam, like some portions of Anjaam because you know the kind of action we had in the film.” Recalling the physically demanding nature of Anjaam, Madhuri explained how the experience became a learning ground for her. “I think I learned a lot from him in those action sequences and during Anjaam we used to discuss because we were doing Koyla and Anjam.”She went on to describe how contrasting their projects were at the time. “And I said we've done Anjaam together where we were just hitting each other, we were all bloodied and we are like at each other's throats.” The contrast became even more striking when they moved on to Koyla. “Then we did Koyla where we are running away, we're going through mud and getting leeches all stuck to our legs.”

It was during these intense projects that Madhuri expressed a wish to explore a softer genre together. “And I said we have to do a very nice, sweet, simple romantic film together.” That wish, she revealed, soon turned into reality. “We were just discussing it and then Dil To Pagal Hai happened.” Madhuri shared her excitement about finally working with Shah Rukh in a full-fledged romantic space. “And I was so thrilled because he's also such a great romantic hero.”Explaining what sets Shah Rukh apart, she added, “When he romances a heroine, you'll feel he's really in love and I just love the idea of romance. So, even Dil To Pagal Hai was a wonderful film to do with him.” Summing up their collaborations, Madhuri concluded, “I think I've done some good films with him.”Watch the full interview here:
