Ram Charan’s Peddi has stormed past expectations at the global box office, collecting over Rs 366 crore within just nine days of its release. Entering its second weekend, the sports drama has officially been declared the number one grosser from South India in 2026 by its production team.
With its worldwide earnings Peddi is emerging as Ram Charan’s first major box-office success after the blockbuster RRR. The actor’s previous films, Acharya and Game Changer, failed to perform as expected at the box office. Game Changer, in particular, was talk of the town due to its production costs, with reports suggesting that a single song sequence alone was made on a budget of nearly Rs 75 crore.

The film received negative repsonse over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyyamma. Several members of the audience criticised romantic sequences and hypersexualisation of the character, director Buchi Babu addressed the controversy directly.Taking to X, the filmmaker stated, "As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously." He also went on to mention that he respects women.
Written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Divyendu Sharma, and Jagapathi Babu. The film follows the journey of a young man rising through intense sporting challenges while battling rivalry, pride, and personal expectations.
Ram Charan underwent significant physical transformation to portray his character convincingly. The film had special premieres worldwide on June 3, 2026, followed by its global theatrical the next day. It is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas in collaboration with Mythri Movie Makers and IVY Entertainment, while Jio Studios handled its North India distribution. It has film by AR Rahman, and cinematography by Rathnavelu.
