Ananya
Panday and Lakshya's Chand Mera Dil opened to mixed feedback from critics and the masses. The film, directed by Vivek Soni, has received a lukewarm response at the box office. Ever since the film's teaser and trailer were released, a certain section of social media has compared Chand Mera Dil to Saiyaara. Directed by Mohit Suri, the romantic musical featured Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in lead roles. Recently, when Zoom did an exclusive interview with actress Charu Shankar, she reacted to this comparison. The actress plays Ananya Panday's mother in Chand Mera Dil.
Charu Shankar on Chand Mera Dil and Saiyaara
When Charu was asked about
Chand Mera Dil's comparison to
Saiyaara, the actress told us, "Both films are rooted in young love. But I think
CMD very quickly moves into far more layered emotional territory." Charu feels
Chand Mera Dil not only explores romance, but also the darker shades of love which are resentment, guilt, and heartbreak.
The actress believes Ananya and Lakshya-starrer also explores painful realisation that sometimes we are responsible for setting our own worlds on fire. Having said that, Charu mentioned that her character Nivedita senses this danger much earlier than Ananya and Lakshya's Chandni-Aarav."She repeatedly warns them that they are too young to fully grasp the long-term consequences of the choices they are making, and as the story unfolds, you realize she was absolutely right. What I really love about the film is that resolution doesn’t come easily or dramatically. It comes through maturity, time, and the emotional evolution that only life can teach you," she said.
Why is Chand Mera Dil special for Charu Shankar?
Continuing the conversation,
Charu expressed that Chand Mera Dil is special for her because she chose to discover her character through Bharatanatyam.
"I didn’t want to simply act like a dancer- I wanted her spine, her gaze, her hands, even the way she wore silence, to feel like someone who had lived with classical dance for decades. I trained with Suhail Bhan, a Bharatanatyam teacher for months- I learned mudras, abhinaya, nattuvangam, jatis in Adi Taalam, even how to teach a Bharatanatyam class, because I wanted dance to exist in Nivedita unconsciously," she shared. The actress added that she and Ananya were deeply committed to the process and bonded over it.Meanwhile, did you enjoy watching
