BTS has once again given fans a glimpse into the group's famous chemistry, and this time, a discussion about Billie Eilish unexpectedly became one of the highlights of their FESTA celebrations. On June 10, BigHit released the much awaited BTS Dinner Party 2.0, one of the group's annual content releases, taking ARMYs inside their bonding across a meal table, as if making fans part of the chat. Fans got a chance to see RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook hanging out, sharing stories and joking around with each other in the relaxed dinner setting. While many moments emerged memorable, one part stood out where V is spotted poking fun at Jin over his curiosity about a recent interview of Billie Eilish. The exchange quickly became one of the most
talked-about moments from the gathering, due to the members' playful banter and frank opinion of a topic that continues to divide concertgoers worldwide - the use of smartphones at live shows.
FESTA tradition continues
BTS Dinner Party 2.0 is one of the group's
2026 FESTA celebrations, which commemorates the anniversary of BTS with special content, behind-the-scenes moments and conversations between members. This year's edition is especially significant as it is one of the first major FESTA celebrations since all seven members completed their military service and reunited as a group.
Billie Eilish's name comes up
In the chat, the members were discussing the Japan leg of their ongoing
ARIRANG World Tour, praising how the fans there were better as they barely used their smart phones to record the concert. V randomly brought up a recent interview of Billie Eilish, but he refused to reveal what was said initially. Jin's attention snapped at the vague mention. Jin asked for details again and again, asking for more clarification, while Jimin jokingly said nobody wanted to explain. The suspense finally broke as J-Hope came in and gave the context. Hobi revealed, "She said, 'Holding up their phones and filming is part of how they enjoy concerts'." Everyone at the table burst into laughter at the revelation, especially since V had purposefully kept Jin in the dark.
What did Billie Eilish say?
The discussion had recently been about how Billie Eilish defended fans who film concerts with their phones. "My generation, and the generations below, we love to film stuff. All I do is film and take pictures of stuff – all of the time," she said in an interview from May 2026."When I was young and would go to concerts or festivals, I would film every single minute of it – and then I would watch every single video that I took over and over until I even had the audio of the crowd memorised. I think that’s not to be pooh-poohed," she added. "An important part of the culture is that we are all on our phones! It keeps us connected. It does!"
BTS' plea to "put your phones down"
BTS has time and again recognised that there are reasonable arguments on each side of the controversy. There are those fans who want to enjoy the concert without distraction and would also like the audience to be present in the moment, while others love shooting videos and photos for memories after the event.BTS members have had a taste of both sides, having performed in front of millions of people around the world. Infact, the members have on occasion implored fans to put down their phones and soak in performances in the moment during their career, as goes their lyrics from Body To Body - "Put your phone down, let's get all the fun!"
Members have joked about seeing thousands of screens in the audience and have reminded ARMYs that some moments are best seen with their own eyes and not through a camera lens. And while the group has never been entirely against fan recordings, it's also often understood that many concertgoers want a souvenir of a once-in-a-lifetime concert experience. That balanced viewpoint was reflected again during the Dinner Party 2.0 conversation.
