There
will be one less familiar face in The Last of Us Season 3 when the HBO show returns some time in 2027. Danny Ramirez, who had joined the hit show in Season 2, is departing the series ahead of the third season. His role will be recast, and sources say that the actor's commitments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Joaquin Torres, aka Falcon, could be a key reason why he won't be back. Here's all we know about the latest casting update for The Last of Us Season 3, which is based on the popular video game series by Naughty Dog.
Danny Ramirez leaves The Last of Us Season 3, to be recast
According to a report in
Nexus Point News, Danny Ramirez won't be returning as Manny on the third season of
The Last of Us. A representative from HBO confirmed that his role is set to be recast due to scheduling conflicts. The HBO show will begin filming from March to November 2026 in Vancouver, and production is currently in the casting phase.
While the report does not mention which project Ramirez is turning down the series for, it is likely to be the next Marvel film,
Avengers: Secret Wars. The
Top Gun: Maverick actor plays Falcon and was first introduced in the limited series
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He reprised his role as Joaquin Torres in
Captain America: Brave New World and will also be a part of
Avengers: Doomsday.
More about The Last of Us
Based on the Naughty Dog video game created by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley,
The Last of Us is set in a post-apocalyptic America infected by zombies turned by a deadly fungus. Seasons 1 and 2 starred Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. In Season 2, Kaitlyn Dever, Danny Ramirez, Young Mazino, Isabela Merced, Spencer Lord, and Catherine O’Hara joined the cast as more survivors of the dystopian world.
Chernobyl's Craig Mazin is taking over as the lone showrunner for Season 3 after Druckmann departs to focus on the video game world. The third season of
The Last of Us will
focus more on Dever's character Abby as the show adapts another part of the popular second game.
