Nintendo has officially kicked off production on its live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, as confirmed through an announcement on the company’s X account.

Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto shared three first-look images via Nintendo’s account.The photos reveal Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, captured in a lush, natural landscape.

Originally scheduled for a March 26, 2027 release, Miyamoto previously announced via X that the premiere has been moved to May 7, 2027 for “production reasons.” Sony will handle distribution.The film is directed by Wes Ball, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad serving as producers. T.S. Nowlin penned the latest version of the screenplay, succeeding Derek Connolly (Jurassic World

Story and Franchise Legacy
Based on the iconic video game series created by Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka in 1986, the story follows Link, an elf-like warrior, and Princess Zelda as they join forces to battle Ganon, a former warlord turned demon king, to save Hyrule.The franchise remains one of Nintendo’s most celebrated, with over 150 million units sold since its launch and landmark titles like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time released in 1998.
Nintendo’s Upcoming Projects
Nintendo also has The Super Mario Galaxy Movie slated for April 3 next year. Produced by Illumination and Universal, the sequel features a returning voice cast along with additions Brie Larson and Benny Safdie. A trailer dropped last week.
