Hasbro, one of America's most popular toymakers, confirmed on Wednesday that it has been affected by a cyberattack. The makers of Peppa Pig, Monopoly, Transformers, Dungeons & Dragons, and other toys revealed the breach in a legally required filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), mentioning that it was first detected on March 28. Here’s What Hasbro SaidThe toymaker stated that the company discovered an unauthorised intrusion into their systems, prompting them to immediately take action against the intruder and take down parts of its infrastructure as a part of the preventive measure. Parts of Hasbro’s website could have been down on Wednesday, with a message informing visitors, saying, “Currently undergoing maintenance.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Please come back later. Connection Failed. Error 20.”Here's What HappenedA TechCrunch report notes that the American toymaking giant has sought an outside cyberagency’s help to manage the crisis, but Hasbro’s filing stated it was still working to “implement measures to secure its business operations”. This could probably mean that the company is still trying to recover from the cyberattack and may not have been able to fully contain the situation. It is noteworthy that the Hasbro website is still down at the time of writing. So far, the exact nature of the attack, like ransomware, data theft, or maybe something else, is yet to be confirmed. Speaking of the data stealing, the company noted that it is still investigating the intrusion it found and could not immediately confirm whether theattackers stole any sensitive data. Moreover, in an official response given to the publication, company spokesperson Andrea Snyder said, “Hasbro has taken swift action to protect our systems and data.”The firm said that it has also rolled out business continuity plans that will enable it to get orders, ship products, and carry out other operations while the issue gets resolved.
