S Varma’s latest directorial, Haq, is emerging as a box office success. Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam’s performances received rave reviews. Amid the successful theatrical run, Suparn told Zoom exclusively that Haq and Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai are tied together with the unbreakable thread of faith.

Suparn Varma on creating courtroom drama space

In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Suparn opened up about experimenting with various genres and creating a sensitive space for his courtroom dramas to expand and grow. “I have made Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, then Haq and maybe one more courtroom drama at some point in my career. It's not like a big major plan. It's a story that leads the heart and decides. I am genre-agnostic. I am doing various genres as well. But, there is a special place in my heart to explore courtroom dramas.”ALSO READ: Haq Box Office: Emraan Hashmi, Yami Gautam Film Gains Strong Momentum; Footfalls Double When asked if he could categorise Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai and Haq in the same space, the director shared, “Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai dealt with faith and so does Haq. Shazia’s faith carries her through. PC Solanki’s faith carried him forward from the first scene to the last. So, it all ties in. Faith is a very personal thing.”

About Haq

Haq follows the story of Shazia Bano and Abbas Khan. After he announces triple talaq, she approaches the court for maintenance to educate their children. The case goes to the Supreme Court, leading to a historic judgement that empowered Muslim women. At the box office, Haq saw 100% growth on the second day, and the footfalls are encouraging too. Women, especially Muslims, have been coming out in support of the film and urging people to watch it in theatres. Haq also stars Vartika Singh, Sheeba Chadha, Aseem Hattangady and others.
