4 February, excitement among fans was high as the makers of D55 revealed that Malayalam superstar Mammootty would be joining forces with Dhanush in Rajkumar Periyasamy’s upcoming directorial. Long before this collaboration, Dhanush had made a brief appearance in a Malayalam film where Mammootty and Dileep starred as brothers managing a family business while navigating humorous challenges. Dhanush’s cameo marked his first appearance in Malayalam cinema, offering fans an early glimpse of his on-screen chemistry with Mammootty.

Which Is Mammootty and Dhanush’s First Film Together

Before D55, Mammootty and Dhanush first shared the screen in a 2013 Malayalam action-comedy. Mammootty and Dileep played brothers who rise from running a small eatery to owning a restaurant chain, while Dhanush appeared in a cameo. Despite the brief role, their interaction was appreciated by fans.

The film, written by Udayakrishna–Siby K. Thomas and directed by Thomson K Thomas, follows the Kammath brothers as they attempt to acquire a hotel in Palakkad, facing opposition and comic scenes along the way. The story revolves around their bond, and playful rivalry, forming the heart of the film’s humour. Rima Kallingal and Karthika Nair played the female leads, portraying a municipal secretary and her sister, while the supporting cast included Baburaj, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Janardhanan, Narain, Sphadikam George, and Vishnupriya.
