Why Did Bridgerton Season 4 Miss Out On Netflix’s All-Time Top 10 List Despite Big Numbers?

The

previous three seasons of Bridgerton and the spinoff series Queen Charlotte all spent time on Netflix’s all-time Top 10 list. Today, only Season 1 and Season 3 remain and the newly released Season 4 failed to break into the list. It's the first time the romance series, based on Julia Quinn's novels, has not been part of it. And it indicates a larger trend for the streaming service as the newer seasons of its original shows are failing to recreate the numbers. Additionally, between the long waits for seasons, audiences are moving on as well. We look at why Bridgerton Season 4 did well but still managed to fall short.

Bridgerton and the Netflix all-time top 10 list

The first season of Bridgerton, which released on Christmas Day 2020, has set the record with 113.3 million views. It currently sits in seventh place on the list. However, its viewing numbers were accumulated with Netflix's old methods. Now, it calculates the numbers with a 91-day viewing window.

The second season of Bridgerton has 93.8 million views and was premiered in March 2022. A year later, the spinoff series, Queen Charlote: A Bridgerton Story, was released in May 2023 and garnered 81.3 million views. It also had two fewer episodes.

With the third and fourth seasons, Netflix tried a new strategy of releasing it in two parts. Bridgerton Season 3 was released in May and June 2024 and had 106 million views. According to What's On Netflix, Bridgerton Season 4, which was released in January and February 2026, will reportedly end up having around 92 to 95 million views in its final run. The official numbers have not been released. The limited series His & Hers, which is in tenth place on the current list, has 98.2 million views.

Bridgerton's numbers are part of a growing trend

All of Netflix's returning shows from Wednesday to Beef have seen a decline in viewership. All of the seasons have returned after at least a two-year wait. The Four Seasons, starring Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and Colman Domingo, returned for its second season last week with a 63 per cent drop and had 4.4 million views. The second season of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, starring Wednesday star Emma Myers, premiered with 1.8 million views and a nearly 75 per cent drop. Viewers are often surprised that these shows have returned because it's been so long that they've moved on to other series.

Bridgerton's future

Despite the fourth season not making the cut, fans should not worry about the show's cancellation. The next season of Bridgerton, led by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza, is expected to be released in 2027. That's the shortest gap between seasons so far.

The romance show is also renewed for a sixth season, which is likely to focus on Claudia Jessie's character Eloise Bridgerton and her love story. Producer Shonda Rhimes had shared that she wanted eight seasons of the show, one for each of the eight Bridgerton siblings. For the expected seasons 7 and 8 the show would follow the youngest Bridgertons, Gregory (Will Tilston) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).
