Yami Gautam on need for debate in society
In an exclusive chat with Times Now Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, Yami Gautam opened up about the importance of fostering clean, constructive debate in a society she described as increasingly divided and polarised. When asked about the necessity of debate in such a climate, Yami said, “Bilkul zarurat hai. Abhi hum Haq film ki baat kar rahe hai jo concept hai film ka, jo subject hai. Agar debate na ho aur discussion na ho — it’s dead, doesn’t mean anything then. So the fact ki debate hai, not with an intention that ki kuch controversy karte hai. Wo wala PR na aapko jarurat hai na humein jarurat hai. Humne ek simple kahani kahi jo hume laga ki kehni chahiye bator artist, humne wo kahi.”

She elaborated and shared that no cuts have been made in Haq for UAE release and it carries a 15+ rating. “This is the first time I am sharing, ki is film ko UAE main in terms of censorship there are no cuts and it is 15 plus. Meaning it is watchable for all. Toh agar waha koi problem nahi hai that means this film is not here to antagonise anyone from any faith. Isse bada evidence atleast bethe bethe bina film release ke toh dena thoda mushkil hai. Yami Gautam on link between cinema and society
Yami also emphasised the dual influence between cinema and society. She noted, “Humare liye jitni janta humare sath judegi, it is business again right if you are running a business, so are we. We are kind of held together by this thread. Kayi baar cinema influence karta hai society ko, kayi baar society influence karti hai ki is subject par film banani chahiye — thoda overlap kahi na kahi kar raha hai aur achchi baat hai. Agar debate ya discussion nahi hoga toh badlaav kese aayega.”
