Border
2 Release And Box Office Update: Sunny Deol has roared back into cinemas worldwide with Border 2, also starring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The sequel to 1997 war drama Border is receiving glorious reviews from critics and audiences alike. It is also expected to take a flying start at the box office. As the Anurag Singh directorial continues to make noise for all the right reasons, there has been curiosity around its release in Pakistan, particularly after its ban in Gulf countries.
Is Border 2 Cleared For Release In Pakistan?
Border 2 premiered in cinemas worldwide on January 23, including in India and several international markets. However, like many recent Indian films with cross-border themes, its release in Pakistan remains uncertain. There has been no official confirmation of a theatrical release there, and given that India-Pakistan films often struggle for clearance in both markets, it's likely Pakistani audiences may not see the film in theatres, at least not officially.
Border 2 Banned In Gulf Countries
Despite the global rollout, Border 2 will not be released in several Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. Countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates(UAE) have refused certification or screening clearance for the film, effectively blocking its theatrical release there. This decision is attributed to concerns over the movie’s perceived 'anti-Pakistan' content, as Border 2 is centred on the India-Pakistan conflict of 1971. Previous films with similar themes like
Dhurandhar faced the same Pakistan and Gulf non-release. Although officials in those countries have not publicly stated detailed reasons, industry sources say films portraying Pakistan negatively struggle to secure approval in that region. This ban means Border 2 will miss out on box office revenue from a traditionally strong overseas market for Bollywood films. Even so, its domestic appeal remains strong, and the makers are banking on Indian audiences to carry the film's success, much like Dhurandhar did despite a Gulf blackout.
Border 2 Box Office: Bumper Opening On Cards
Trade analysts predict a very strong opening weekend for Border 2 at the Indian box office. Advance bookings are robust, with significant ticket sales even before release. Some industry estimates suggest opening day collections could be substantial, potentially surpassing earlier patriotic blockbusters and marking one of the biggest starts for the year.It is being anticipated that Border will open in the range of Rs 35 to Rs 40 crore, which means it will take a bigger start than Dhurandhar, the highest grossing Hindi film of all time.
