wreaking havoc with his war-drama Border 2, Sunny Deol is all set to thrill fans with his upcoming period drama 1947. While fans await the movie's release date, the makers have finally locked it. According to an official announcement, Lahore 1947 will hit theatres on August 13, 2026, just 2 days before India’s Independence Day. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is being positioned as a major Independence Day release. Interestingly, this is the second National holiday release Sunny Deol gets, begore this, the actor's Border 2 also released on Republic Day.

With the film nearing completion, Aamir Khan recently shared a personal connection to the story. With the film's release date announcement, Aamir Khan shared an important fact related to the movie. The Laal Singh Chaddha actor shared that the "script of Lahore 1947 was one of Dharmendra’s favourites" and said he was grateful that Sunny Deol’s father lived to see the film finally take shape, adding emotional value to the project.

Lahore 1947 had been in discussion for several years. He said that he and Santoshi had often talked about the subject, but practical challenges and timing issues kept pushing it back. According to the
Jaat actor, the success of
Gadar played a key role in making the film viable on a larger scale. He added that Aamir Khan later approached him with the idea of producing the film, and the project moved forward soon after.
Sunny also described the film as emotionally intense, in line with his earlier collaborations with Santoshi. He said the story features strong characters and a layered narrative that reflects the emotional complexity of its setting. The film is adapted from a stage play and focuses on the human cost of historical upheaval.
