Meta Faces Heat From US Supreme Court On Social Media Addiction Lawsuit, Here's What Happened

The Supreme Court of the United States of America has declined to hear Meta Platforms' plea to avoid lawsuits brought by Vermont's attorney general, accusing the company of designing Instagram, photo-sharing applications, in a way that is addictive to young users. This comes at a time when big tech is already facing legal risks related to child safety. The justices turned their face away from Meta's appeal of a lower court's ruling that let the lawsuit proceed, rejecting the firm's argument that courts in Vermont had jurisdiction over the dispute. Vermont Supreme Court has said, 'A company that reaches out and purposefully avails itself of a forum state's market for its own economic gain can expect to be haled into court in that jurisdiction to account for its conduct related to those business activities.'
