trouble seems to loom large for Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav as the Delhi High Court passed an order on Tuesday (February 3, 2026) that he had to surrender himself to the concerned Jail Superintendent by February 4, 2026. The court passed this order after the 54-year-old star had been breaching the court's proceedings in a cheque dishonour cases.
Delhi High Court orders Rajpal Yadav "deserves to be deprecated"
According to a report in Live Law, Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma has criticised Rajpal's conduct in the case, saying that he did not keep his payment promises to the complainant, Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd., even though he had many chances and was given a lot of tolerance. The court said that his behavior "deserves to be deprecated."The order came while the court was hearing a group of appeals from Rajpal and his wife against their conviction under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. They were ordered to serve six months of simple imprisonment. A coordinate bench had already put the sentence on hold on June 28, 2024, saying that the couple were not hardened criminals and were open to finding a peaceful solution. After that, the issue went to mediation.
Why are the proceedings related to Rajpal Yadav's cheque bounce cases?
Post the mediation session, the court said that since June 2024, Rajpal had asked for extensions many times, promising to make payments each time, but never did.As per the report, Rajpal had previously promised the court that he would pay Rs 2.5 crore in installments of Rs 40 lakh and Rs 2.10 crore, however, he failed to deposit the money by the new due dates.Justice Sharma said that the actor didn't take any steps to deposit the demand drafts with the Registrar General or fix the mistakes that were said to be in the drafts. There was also no application asking for permission or clarification.
Rajpal Yadav explained typo in demand draft as cause for delay in payments
Post this, the actor gave an explanation for failing to comply with the payments and reasoned that the demand drafts had a typo, however the court didn't believe it. The court said the claim wasn't credible, especially since the actor knew about the issue as early as December 18, 2025, but kept asking for more time. The court said that even after giving Rajpal more time on January 20, 2026, and passing an order to deposit the drafts by January 21 and pay Rs 2.10 crore by January 27, 2026, he still didn't do what he was told. The court said, "So far, neither Rs 40 lakh has been deposited nor Rs 2.10 crore has been paid, even though promises were made a long time ago." The court said there was no reason to be more lenient because Rajpal had already admitted guilt and promised to pay back the money. The court also ordered that the money already given to the Registrar General be given to the complainant company. It noted that Rajpal Yadav and his wife had been found guilty in all seven cases and had to pay Rs 1.35 crore in each case.
Rajpal Yadav asked to surrender before Jail Superintendent by February 4, 2026
But because Yadav's lawyer asked for it because the actor had work to do in Mumbai, the court told him to turn himself in to the Jail Superintendent by 4:00 PM on February 4, 2026, to serve the sentence given to him by the trial court. The issue has been set for February 5, 2026, to get the jail authorities to follow the rules.
