Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, Kaantha is said to be inspired by the life of legendary Tamil actor MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. The film is touted to be one of the most ambitious projects in Dulquer's career. As per latest reports, the film's approved runtime is 163 minutes, which is about 2 hours and 43 minutes.

In Kaantha, Dulquer Salmaan plays Chandran, a movie star whose turbulent bond with a director and producer played by Samuthirakani, forms the core of the story. The film also stars Bhagyashri Borse in her Tamil debut, alongside Rana Daggubati, who co-produces the film. It portrays a the golden age of Tamil cinema with a focus on music and cinema history. The movie features a gripping storyline with tensions between the star and director. The film was initially slated for a September 12 release. Dulquer Salmaan also produces it through his banner Wayfarer Films alongside Rana Daggubati of Spirit Media, Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese. Announcing the release date, Rana Daggubati posted wrote, "Diwali just got a whole lot more explosive! Kaantha will be lighting up theatres worldwide from November 14th! Wishing you all a happy Diwali and we’ll see you in the theatres very soon."Selvamani Selvaraj is known for his documentary series The Hunt for Veerappan which won accolades after it released on Netflix in 2024. The technical team includes Spanish cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, and music composer Jhanu Chanthar. 'Kaantha' is set to release on November 14, 2025, in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
