Nepali actor Sunil Thapa died at the age of 68 on Sunday (February 7). He breathed his last at the Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, Kathmandu. According to Kathmandu Post, the doctors suspect a cardiac arrest and an EGC was conducted at 7:55 AM to determine the cause. A medical bulletin is expected to be released after the deceased actor’s family complete the formalities. While Thapa lived in Nepal, his family members stay in Mumbai. Further details on his health, funeral and last rites are awaited. Thapa was a renowned actor in the Nepali film industry. He also worked in Bollywood and Bhojpuri films over several decades.

Born in Dang, Nepal, Sunil made his acting debut with the Hindi movie
Ek Duuje Ke Liye in 1981. Before becoming an actor, he was known as a model. Thapa played professional football for clubs in Bombay. In his younger days, he worked as a photojournalist for JS Magazine (Junior Statesman) and covered the Bhutan Coronation in 1974. More popular in Nepali cinema than Hindi, Thapa had done memorable roles in Bollywood as well. One of the known characters was in Priyanka Chopra’s
Mary Kom. His latest film was
Eklo. Having done over 300 Nepali films, he became one of the most sought-after antagonists in the industry with his performance as Rate Kaila in
Chino.

The Family Man 3. He shared the screen with Dalip Tahil and Manoj Bajpayee. The veteran actor played the role of David Khuju, a local Nagaland leader and the head of the MCA. His character in the series had an important role. David was involved in the peace initiative, Project Sahakar, which focused on restoring peace and development in the northeastern region. Eventually, David dies. Thapa’s sudden demise left his fans and the Nepali industry in shock. We pray for his soul to rest in peace.
