Imtiaz Ali on Amar Singh Chamkila at the International Emmys
At the 53rd International Emmy World Television Festival's panel and medal ceremony, Imtiaz and producer Mohit Choudhary were on hand to get recognised for their work on
Amar Singh Chamkila. The filmmaker recalled how the streamer Netflix stepped in to back the musical and give it a digital premiere. With the streaming service's backing, all the previous filmmaking problems disappeared.
At the panel, Imtiaz further added that the focus for him was the music of the late Punjabi singer. He stated, "For me this was a love story between an artist and his art. A singer and performance are like lovers, and at some point of time you don’t do it for money, success and glamour, you do it for the performance itself, beyond any logic, to serve their audiences, and that was the strongest impulse in Amar Singh Chamkila’s character and that is what I focused on."
