Jisoo turned heads with her flowery appearance at the Met Gala 2026 on May 4. She joined her Blackpink bandmates Lisa, Rose, and Jennie, who also took to the Met red carpet representing their individual brands. While Jisoo trended high across social media, the K-pop idol soon started hogging a controversy around an outfit's return. Trouble steamed when designer Benjamin Voortmans accused her team of not returning borrowed outfits. The claims cast an unfortunate shadow over her Met Gala debut, leaving many disappointed. A day later, the Belgian designer reacted to the matter through an Instagram video. He stated that the issue has been "resolved."On May 5, news surfaced that Jisoo found herself at the centre of a shocking controversy after an independent
fashion designer publicly accused her team of failing to return borrowed outfits. Incase you aren't up to date about what exactly happened, we got you covered.
What is Jisoo's outfit return controversy?
Trouble started when Belgian designer Benjamin Voortmans publicly accused Jisoo's team of not returning outfits that were reportedly loaned for a photoshoot during a project. According to the designer, the pieces had been sent to South Korea around six months back and had still not been returned despite repeated attempts to contact her team. In a video shared on Instagram, Benjamin described the situation as "unprofessional" and expressed frustration over being ignored for months. His claims quickly went viral, leading to intense online discussions. Some fans were shocked, while others defended the idol, pointing out that such logistics are typically handled by management or styling teams rather than the artist herself.
Designer's allegation, clarification
A day later (May 6), Benjamin Voortmans posted a series of videos on Instagram as a follow-up clarification. He also addressed the backlash and hate that he was getting online for demanding what belonged to him. Stating that the situation had been misunderstood, he emphasised that his intention was not to accuse Jisoo personally but to get a response from the team responsible for handling the outfits. He, however, refused to apologise and kept a strong stand."Not getting a response for 6 months and not respecting us is terrible. So I will not be saying sorry. Ofcourse I said her name in the things I said. I think the whole team should be aware of treating people better next time, and address if there's any problems. I'm getting hate for waking up something that should've been working out. So stop the hate," he said in one of the videos. He also confirmed that steps were being taken to resolve the matter, including arranging for a representative to retrieve the items. The designer reiterated that the core issue was poor communication from the project’s management rather than any deliberate action by Jisoo.
Internet posted divided reactions
While some netizens criticised the situation as mishandling by the team, many others defended Jisoo, highlighting that artists are rarely directly involved in wardrobe logistics. The designer himself later asked fans to stop sending hate, clarifying that he respects Jisoo and did not intend to target her personally."The designer made Jisoo get criticised, and yet he is saying he didn’t attack her. It’s crazy that people bashed Jisoo just because of a trolling video," wrote a fan on social media. Another one reacted, "I guess he had to go this far for everything to get resolved." A third post read, "I guess they have to mention big names, seeing how fast things got resolved."

"I just wanted to come on here and clarify everything on the Jisoo situation. I think I’m getting a lot of hate on that and a lot of messages, and I just wanted to make everything clear, because I never actually attacked Jisoo. I also put it in the title of the first video that it was the team. I used her name to have a response from the team. So I never intended to attack her, and I don’t condone any hate online whatsoever, but yes, I did use her name because it was a part of the shoot. Her name was everywhere in the mail and stuff, but I never wanted to attack her whatsoever. I just want to make it clear that there is no misunderstanding. The team got back to me, and everything is getting fixed, so we are happy for that. But in the first place, I never wanted to have hate towards her whatsoever. I love what she does. I love what she stands for, and I would never be here just to hate on someone or get clout. This is a really big misunderstanding between me and the fans. A lot of things are getting twisted these days, but her name was dropped, her name was there…but the response from the team was not clear for months and months, and a lot of designers were a part of it. But yeah, everything is getting cleared. I just want everyone to understand that I was getting very emotional about it and that I was very fast with my words, but we’re good now. We can move on to another chapter."Benjamin Voortmans is the founder of the Belgian label Judassime. His designs are known for being high-value, unique pieces. He sent Jisoo some of his creations for a potential album cover shoot in late 2025.
