A few days after actress Mouni Roy opened up about a horrifying harassment incident in Karnal, Bengali actress Mimi Chakraborty, known for starring in films like Sudhu Tomar Jonyo, Kelor Kirti, Proloy
and more, has complained of a similar issue. The actress has penned a brief note on the occasion of Republic Day and revealed facing public harassment at an event in Bongaon. Mimi revealed that she was 'abruptly asked to get off stage' amid her performance. She has also claimed leaving the stage that way, was followed by derogatory remarks on the microphone, which was 'not just humiliating, but it defamed her publicly.' Mimi has also revealed taking a legal action in the matter.
Mimi Chakraborty alleges facing public harassment at Bongaon event
In a detailed post shared by Mimi on X (Formerly known as Twitter), she spoke about choosing Republic Day for opening up about the harassment incident. She wrote, "As we celebrate Republic Day, we speak of freedom and equality. But the independence and dignity of women and artists are still too easily violated.I have built my image and career on my own over the years. Staying silent today would only normalise the humiliation of artists."She went on to open up about the incident and added, "I was invited by Naya Gopal Gunj Yubak Sango Club to perform at an event in Bongaon. Mid-performance, I was abruptly asked to leave the stage without any prior communication, in front of the audience. There were many people waiting to see me and meet me, including fans who had come for a picture."
The actress shared that after she left the stage abruptly, she had to face derogatory remarks on the microphone, which was humiliating and it defamed her publicly. She further added, "Leaving the stage that way, followed by derogatory remarks on the microphone, was not just humiliating, it defamed me publicly. "In her note, Mimi exrpressed, at the time, she decided to leave quietly to maintain decorum. But she has now "taken the matter to the appropriate legal authorities and believe in due process."She concluded her note by explaining why she didn't hide the incident, "If I keep quiet today, this behaviour will be repeated tomorrow.Dignity on stage is non-negotiable."
What happens next?
A report in Bangla AajTak quoted a source confirming that the Police has filed a complaint at Bangaon police station by email. Mimi made it clear in her statement that she won't stay quiet and plans to take legal action. She also said that her lawyer would be sending a defamation notice about the event.
Organisers allege Mimi came late at event
The organisers, however, have alleged that Mimi Chakraborty took the stage at around 11:45 pm, nearly an hour later than the scheduled time. According to them, it was because of this delay that she was asked to step down from the stage. They added that Mimi, given her stature as a prominent artiste, may have perceived the request as disrespectful. The club has also demanded an apology from the actress.

This comes days after a disturbing incident involving Mouni Roy at an event in Karnal. The actress alleged that several older men touched her inappropriately for photos despite her objections, while two men later passed lewd remarks and gestures from the front row. Overwhelmed, she briefly walked off stage before returning to complete her performance.
A video of the incident went viral, drawing widespread support from fans and celebrities. Expressing her anguish on Instagram, Mouni said she was “humiliated and traumatised” and urged authorities to act, while also highlighting the vulnerability of performers, especially newcomers.
