Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, directorAnil Ravipudi’s film starring Chiranjeevi in the lead, was released in theatres on January 12 and opened to a positive response from both audiences and critics. While fans praised the film’s humour and its use of popular classic tracks, concerns were raised over the inclusion of a particular song. The song Sundari Kannal Oru Seidhi, composed by Ilaiyaraaja, is used during the romantic portions featuringChiranjeevi and Nayanthara’s characters. This led to speculation among fans about whether Ilaiyaraaja might take legal action against the makers, potentially resulting in the song’s removal. Anil Ravipudi RespondsSpeaking at the film’s success meet, Anil Ravipudi clarified whether prior permit was obtained from Ilaiyaraaja to use the song. He said, “We used this beautiful song in the film, and before doing so, we sought permission from Ilaiyaraaja sir. We informed him that it would be used in sequences featuring Chiranjeevi, and he agreed. I am grateful that a legend like him took the time to hear us out and willingly gave his consent. The due process was followed after we received his approval.”

For those unfamiliar, Ilaiyaraaja had previously sued Mythri Movie Makers for using distorted versions of his songs Karutha Machan and Nooru Varusham in Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude, as well as Otha Rubayum Tharen, Ilamai Idho Idho, and En Jodi Manjakuruvi in Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly. The legal dispute between the legendary composer and the production house was later resolved amicably, with the makers reportedly paying Rs 50 lakh as compensation.
