Dhurandhar
mania is taking over the world, but for casting director Mukesh Chhabra, Dhurandhar isn’t just a routine successful project - it is Mukesh's hard work and passion of almost two years. At the centre of it all is Ranveer Singh, whose portrayal of Hamza Ali Mazari in the action-thriller has left a lasting impression on both audiences and the film’s team. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film has broken all box office records and Chhabra, who came on board during the casting process, believes Singh’s performance is among the finest seen in recent times.
Mukesh Chhabra praises Ranveer Singh
Speaking about Ranveer Singh’s casting, Mukesh Chhabra revealed in an exclusive chat with Zoom that the decision had already been made before he joined the project, but he fully agreed with it. “I think Aditya (Dhar) thought ki wo perfect hoga film ke liye." He then showered praises on Ranveer. "Look at the how great he was in the film. How well he acted how dedicatedly he killed it in performance! I've never seen a better performance than in recent time,” he said, hailing the actor’s intensity and commitment.
Dhurandhar and its sequel,
Dhurandhar: The Revenge, follow the journey of an undercover intelligence agent navigating dangerous territory. Ranveer Singh plays Hamza Ali Mazari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi, a character who infiltrates Karachi’s criminal underworld to dismantle a terror network linked to the ISI. The role demands emotional depth, physical transformation and a commanding screen presence - all of which Singh delivers with conviction, according to the team behind the film.
Mukesh Chhabra wants to show Sara Arjun's audition to everyone!
Beyond Ranveer’s performance, Chhabra also praised the importance of fresh talent in the film, particularly praising Sara Arjun. He revealed that the team deliberately chose to avoid established names for certain roles in order to bring authenticity and novelty to the narrative. “I think once I'm going to show Sara's audition to everyone very soon. She did a fantastic audition. We were very clear that we wanted a fresh approach. We didn't want to any established actors because we wanted a completely fresh face. Fresh face was very important,” he shared.
The casting strategy appears to have paid off, as the film’s ensemble - which includes Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, Danish Pandor and R. Madhavan - has been widely appreciated for its performances. Each character contributes to the plot in its own unique and impactful way. Talking about the film’s success, Chhabra expressed gratitude and made it clear that the achievement belongs to the entire team. “Dhurandhar did so well and not for me I for every single actor for every single technician for every single person associated with the film it did well for everyone and yeah I can only say thanks to God and pray for everyone,” he said.Watch full interview here:
