Going
into Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 2, the fans of the Netflix series had been worried that several characters that had been with the series since the first season were going to die. Before the show, in a late-night talk show interview, writer-directors Matt and Ross Duffer also teased the finale ending with Funko Pop toys. In it, the toy for Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery, was placed on the edge of a table, and later, the duo threw him down. So did Steve Harrington manage to make it out alive from Vol. 2? Warning: Major spoilers ahead!
Does Steve Harrington die in Stranger Things Season 5 Vol 2?
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Steve "The Hair" Harrington is safe after episodes 5, 6, and 7.
He spends much of Vol. 2 in the Upside Down with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), and Nancy (Natalia Dyer) as they search for a generator in the old Hawkins lab. The foursome split up, and Dustin and Steve aren't on the best of terms. They snipe at one another until a physical fight breaks out between the two.
However, the two make up in the end and apologise to one another. Dustin offers Steve the sphere and shield that Eddie (Joseph Quinn) used in the Upside Down battle in Season 4. And as the two tell each other heading into the final battle, "You die, I die," which means the coast is not clear yet. It's time to restart the prayer circle for Vol. 3 consisting of episode 8 releasing on January 1, 2026.
Steve Harrington's grand plan
Besides being a good friend to the Hawkins crew,
Steve also comes up with the final plan, which the gang decides to use to fight Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). Titled Operation Beanstalk, the gang will use the WSQK radio tower and wait until Vecna tries to merge Hawkins with the Upside Down and Abyss. Then, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) will use her powers to infiltrate Vecna and take him down. As they leave the Upside Down after defeating Vecna, the gang plans to leave a bomb to detonate and close that portal once and for all.
