US-based tech giant Instagram has announced two major updates that highlight just how crucial India has become for the company. With millions of creators and one of the world’s largest user bases, Meta-owned Instagram is expanding AI-powered translation tools and introducing new Indian fonts to help creators express themselves more freely and reach wider audiences. Here’s a closer look at everything Instagram revealed.Meta AI Translations Coming To Five More Indian LanguagesThe social media platform has confirmed that AI translations for Reels will soon support Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi, expanding beyond the previously available English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese options.This means creators will be able to translate reels
into these additional languages using Meta AI, helping their content travel across regions and cultures. According to the company, the tool keeps the creator’s natural voice quality intact while generating translations.There’s also an optional lip-sync feature that adjusts mouth movements to match the translated audio, making the video appear as if it was recorded in that language. Users will soon see options in Devanagari and Bengali, Assamese scripts, allowing creators to style captions and on-screen text in languages like Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese.Once available, the new fonts will appear inside the editing timeline under the text section. If a user’s device language is already set to one of these scripts, those fonts will be prioritised by default. Otherwise, fonts can be filtered based on language preferences. The company says the rollout will begin on Android in the coming days.These updates are the latest in a long list of new Instagram tools introduced in recent weeks. Creators now have access to AI-powered restyling for photos and videos, improved editing features such as bulk caption changes and video reversing, an expanded sound effects library, and even lip-sync tools that animate static images.
