Anik Dutta, actor, writer, and cultural commentator Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee shared an emotional tribute with us, reflecting on Dutta’s cinematic voice and the legacy he leaves behind. “I've never worked with him as an actor. I mean, I've never been directed by him, so I can't say much about how he was as a director to an actor,” Sujoy said, before adding that Dutta’s work itself spoke volumes about the kind of artist he was.Talking about the filmmaker’s storytelling style, Sujoy praised the cultural depth present in Dutta’s films. “The kind of films that he made were reflective of a distinctive, indigenous Bengali culture. The cultural view of Kolkata was very aptly reflected in his films,” he shared.
Sujoy also highlighted the unique writing style and humour that became synonymous with Anik Dutta’s cinema. “I always loved the screenplays of his films. The texture of the writing, the quirk, the wit, the humour — they were all a part of his films,” he said. Reflecting on the larger themes in Dutta’s body of work, Sujoy noted that the filmmaker’s cinema always carried a strong voice and political undertone. “All his films had a kind of resonance. The politics of his voice was reflected in so many different ways. The politics of the diaspora, the voice of the diaspora, could be heard in his films,” he explained.Speaking about
