Marking David Dhawan comeback to direction, the makers dropped the first look teaser of the rom-com on April 14. The movie also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hedge playing the two love interestes of Varun. Infact, they are possibly even mothers of two sons with the same father! David Dhawan, who last helmed a movie was the 2020 release Coolie No. 1. Now, with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, he looks to bring back his signature dose of comedy on to the big screen.

The story hints at a messy roller-coaster, as Varun's character tries to avoid trouble that he's landed in by two-timing.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai borrows its title from a hit song from David Dhawan's previous film, Biwi No 1 (1999). The makers call it a "double-trouble" love story that offers a mix of fun, comedy, and romance. It is a "vibrant love triangle that delves into young romance, comedic misadventures, and the emotional highs and lows of contemporary relationships." It however, clearly reminds of Govinda's 2006 film Sandwich, directed by Anees Bazmi.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai marks the fourth collaboration between father-son, David Dhawan and Varun Dhawan, after Coolie No. 1, Judwaa 2 and Main Tera Hero. Its supporting cast reportedly includes Maniesh Paul, Kubbra Sait, Jimmy Shergill, Yogi Babu, Mouni Roy, Rohit Saraf, and Rajeev Khandelwal, adding depth and sparkle to the ensemble. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is set to release in theatres on May 22, 2026.
