Maatrubhumi
previously titled Battle Of Galwan - is undoubteldy one of the highly awaited films of 2026. An action-drama directed by Apoorva Lakhia, it features Salman Khan in the lead role. Fans have been waiting for the movie's release with bated breaths and if things had gone according to plan, Maatrubhumi would have released on April 17 this year. However, the film's release was postponed due to additional shooting. While some promotional assets have been revealed, they don’t mention a release date. As fans eagerly wait for a new release date, a recent report suggests the makers of the film are finally eyeing a date that isn't too far.
Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi to release in theatres on May 15?
As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the team is currently evaluating multiple release options, and May 15 emerging as a strong possibility. The publication quoted a source saying that the extra shoot has now been completed and the film is nearing readiness. Given this, the makers are keen to bring it to cinemas sooner rather than delay it further, and mid-May is being seriously considered.
Earlier, there were discussions about releasing the war drama between July and October. However, that window appears crowded with several big-ticket films already locked in. At one stage, the team had also explored an Independence Day release, but those plans didn’t materialise as Aamir Khan has reportedly taken that slot for
Lahore 1947, which stars Sunny Deol. For now, the focus remains on assessing whether a May 15 release is feasible. If that doesn’t work out, the makers are likely to push the film to a later date.
Final decision to be taken soon?
A final decision is expected soon, with Salman Khan and the other stakeholders closely involved in the discussions. The team is aware that this is one of the few major films of 2026 yet to lock a release date, and they are keen to put an end to the speculation. Salman, in particular, is said to be touched by the enthusiasm fans have shown for
Maatrubhumi, and an official announcement is likely in the near future. In the meantime, the makers are also in the process of finalising a distribution partner, with an announcement on that front expected shortly.
