Tamil film producer Ratanlal Bhagatram Choudary, popularly known as RB Choudary, died in a car accident in Rajasthan on Tuesday (May 5). The news has sent shockwaves through the Tamil film industry.RB Choudary was known for producing films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi under his Super Good Films banner. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he backed 99 films, many of which became major hits. RB Choudary Early Life
RB Choudary hailed from a Rajasthani family and settled in Chennai. He worked in the steel industry before entering film production. During this phase, he lived with his family of four brothers and two sisters in a three-bedroom accommodation that housed around 50 people, including extended family members.
They navigated this difficult period and later moved into a bigger house after he ventured into film production. He began with Malayalam films such as Adipapam, Layanam, and Kalpana House. However, he found major success with Pudhu Vasantham, which won the Tamil Nadu State Award.
RB Choudary's First Wife and Children
While RB Choudary’s films were widely praised and discussed, he preferred to keep his family life private. His first marriage was to a woman from Rajasthan who preferred to stay away from the limelight. They had one son, actor Jithan Ramesh. Until 2021, fans did not know about his mother. It was only after Jithan Ramesh introduced her on the reality show BB Jodigal that audiences saw her. Despite not speaking Tamil, she appeared on the show to bless her son.
Ramesh made his acting debut in the Telugu film Vidyardhi (2004), produced by his father’s banner, Super Good Films. He later appeared in his first Tamil film, Jithan, which gave him his stage name.
RB Choudary's Second Wife and Children
RB Choudary later married Mahjabeen. Their son Amar Choudary, popularly known as Jiiva, was born to them. Jiiva made his film debut in his father’s production Aasai Aasaiyai under Super Good Films. He later appeared in several hit films such as Raam (2005), Kattradhu Tamizh (2007), Ko (2011), Siva Manasula Sakthi (2009), Nanban (2012), and Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil (2026). Jiiva and Jithan Ramesh are half-brothers.
Reports state that RB Choudary also has two more sons, Jeevan Choudary and Suresh Choudary, who are said to look after their father’s business.
RB Choudary's Last Public Appearance
RB Choudary was last seen attending the success meet of Jiiva’s Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, where he praised his son. He said that more than him, it was Jiiva’s mother who was elated about his success. He was also seen attending the wedding of producer Ishari Ganesh’s daughter along with Jiiva.
About RB Choudary’s Death
RB Choudary died in a fatal car crash near Joontha village in the Bewar district of Rajasthan on Tuesday. Reports suggest the accident took place around 3 pm. He was 76. According to police, he was returning with his nephew after attending a relative’s wedding ceremony in Lilamba village. During the journey, near Joontha village, their car went out of control when cattle strayed onto the road.
