Several NFL fans reported problems streaming Netflix during the Washington Commanders vs. Dallas Cowboys game on Thursday (Christmas Day). According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks online outages,
around 500 reports appeared at the time of writing.In a post on X, Downdetector stated, "User reports indicate problems with Netflix since 12:59 PM EST."
Despite this, Netflix’s official server status page did not show any service interruptions. “We are not currently experiencing an interruption to our streaming service,” the company stated.
Social Media Reactions
NFL fans expressed frustration on social media, especially about difficulties using Chromecast. One user said, “Prohibiting casting an NFL game from the Netflix app to a Chromecast is maybe one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.”
Another complained about issues with closing captions while watching. Third user commented, "Why is the Netflix app so locked down?"
One more X user stated, "Netflix is already crashing and the game hasn’t even started." Another said, "Pay for pixels. Netflix has the worst streaming quality of any platform hands down."
Is Netflix Working On Chromecast Devices?
Netflix remains compatible with Chromecast devices, but newer models handle streaming differently than older units. For devices running Google TV or other newer Chromecast platforms with remotes, Netflix recommends using the app installed on the device instead of casting from a phone.
