Kapur's wife Priya Kapur has moved the Delhi High Court with a fresh defamation case against her sister-in-law, Mandhira Kapur Smith. The case comes at a time when a larger legal dispute is already going on within the Kapur family over the control of Sunjay Kapur's assets. Along with Mandhira, others family members are also involved in the family dispute. The matter has now reached a new stage, with Priya seeking legal protection and heavy damages over alleged defamatory statements made against her in public forums and online platforms. Priya is demanding Rs 20 crore in damages from Mandhira.
What Is Priya Kapur's New Defamation Case Against Sister-In-Law All About?
This is not the first legal action between the two. A criminal defamation case filed by Priya Kapur against Mandhira Kapur Smith is already pending before the Patiala House Court in Delhi. That complaint was filed over statements Mandhira allegedly made on social media and during a podcast titled InControversial. The host of the podcast, Pooja Chaudhari, was also named as a party in that case.
The new case before the High Court has been filed over similar statements. In this fresh plea, both Mandhira and Pooja have been made defendants again. Priya has claimed that the statements were repeated and widely circulated, causing serious harm to her public image.Through her petition, Priya has asked the court to issue an injunction to stop Mandhira from making any further defamatory statements. She has also demanded Rs 20 crore as damages for what she described as loss of reputation, mental agony, emotional distress and social humiliation.
Allegations Of False Statements
In her plea, Priya Kapur has stated that Mandhira Kapur Smith repeatedly uploaded and shared videos and posts on social media that directly named her and made false accusations. She claimed that these posts were meant to create hatred, ridicule, and social isolation against her.Priya further told the court that within days of Sunjay Kapur's unfortunate demise, Mandhira began what she described as a planned and organised attempt to malign and socially discredit her. According to the suit, the statements falsely accused her of dishonesty, moral wrongdoing, professional incompetence, hiding assets, and wrongly taking control of corporate matters. She also alleged that the content was deliberately amplified through the podcast InControversial with Pooja Chaudhari. The fresh defamation suit has been filed in the High Court through advocate Smriti Asmita.
