Nayagan, actor Vijay's final film before his full-fledged political entry, is all set to release in theatres on 9 January. Jana Nayagan is said to revolve around Vijay’s role as a police officer with Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol essaying pivotal roles. Ahead of the film hitting screens, the film's director H Vinoth opened up about his experience of working on it, and also addresses reports of it being a remake of the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. In his chat, the filmmaker neither confirmed nor denied the speculations while reiterating the information he revealed during the audio launch of the film.

Speaking to Ananda Vikatan magazine, the filmmaker said "Lot of reports are coming in that the film is inspired from Bhagavanth Kesari or that is a remake of it. What I would like to say again that fans is that you don't have to worry about it" he remarked, adding, "For now I cannot say if Jana Nayagan is a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari or not. Those who think if it's a remake film, and question why they have to watch it again, I suggest you to wait until the first show ends. You will get the answer at the time. The trailer and songs will also give you further clarity. But what I can say is that it is a Thalapathy film."
In the same interview, H Vinoth said "When I got to know that Thalapathy is doing his last film, I approached his Manager and narrated the story to ThalapathyVijay, that's how #JanaNayagan happened. As he is entering politics, I added some political scenes, but I was doubtful if the producer will accept this. To my surprise he was enthusiastic about it, and gave further inputs into the story."
The film also produced by KVN productions also stars Prakash Raj and Priyamani as well. Reportedly, the film's pre-release business figures have earned more than Rs 325 crore. Industry tracker Sacnilk also backed these figures. According to the website, the film has gained Rs 80 crore from its overseas rights, Rs 35 crore from audio rights, Rs 110 crore from streaming rights.For the unversed, Bhagavanth Kesari, released in 2023, and featured Kajal Aggarwal, Sreeleela and Arjun Rampal in leading roles. Directed by Anil Ravipudi, the film earned the Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 71st National Film Awards.
