Sundar Pichai, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk Are Competing To Build Data Centres On Moon
Times Now
The Silicon Valley has always been on steroids when it comes to innovations or coming up with ideas that are beyond imagination. In a recent development, it has been revealed that tech messiahs like Jeff
Bezos, Sundar Pichai, and Elon Musk are exploring the opportunity to set up large data centres on the moon. They want to do the same to build one of a kind AI infrastructure.Google pretty recently took the first step towards the same with the debut of Project Suncatcher, which can be dubbed a plan to deploy solar-powered AI data centres in orbit. The reason behind the same is that we all know that AI consumes a lot of power to run efficiently, which could definitely cause land shortage on Earth. To tackle the issue, the tech giants are moving towards setting up data centres here and there. As for Google, it is planning to test the moonshit project in 2027 with two prototype satellites 2027.
And It Is Not Limited To Big Players
Google is not running alone in the race as of now. Multiple small-scale firms like Starcloud, Axiom Space, and Lonestar data Holdings are all working on a storage system setup that is off-planet. And the race between China and the USA regarding the same is intensifying at a very high pace. China has also recently shared the plans to release 12 AI-powered satellites into low-Earth orbit. The country is calling it the world's first orbital supercomputer network, dubbed the three-body computing constellation. Also Read: Elon Musk Launches X Chat: Features, Availability, Everything You Need To Know About The New WhatsApp Rival All these companies are giving one clear signal that the future data centres and internet systems are based off-planet. And this will also solve the issue of cooling, energy, and space on Earth. Off-planet, solar energy is constant, and cooling requires zero water. This is a main reason why the tech giants are unable to ignore the opportunity.
