Prakash Raj’s mother, Swarnalatha Raj, passed away on March 29, 2026. Her funeral was held two days later, on March 31, with visuals from the ceremony widely shared online as fans and members of the film fraternity expressed their condolences. As the actor mourns the demise of his mother, a controversy surfaced on social media after a user on X posted a screenshot of a tweet falsely attributed to the actor. The post appeared to show Prakash Raj making a disrespectful remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother, Hiraben Modi. The user questioned why people were offering condolences to the actor when he had allegedly made such comments in the past.

The supposed tweet, however, was not real. Prakash Raj quickly addressed the issue on X, calling it out as fake. He criticised those spreading misinformation and said that people were creating false posts in his name and, in the process, insulting their own leader. He added that the timing, April Fool’s Day, made the situation even more ironic, remarking that the joke was on those behind it.The Singham actor brutally roasted the social media user and wrote, "Bigots creating a FAKE tweet in my name and abusing their own leader on #AprilFoolsDay .. the joke is on you Fools. #justasking."

Following his mother’s funeral, the actor also shared a heartfelt message thanking everyone who reached out during the difficult time. He expressed gratitude for the support and kind words extended to him and his family, and paid tribute to his mother, saying he would miss her deeply.

Swarnalatha Raj reportedly passed away at her residence after dealing with age-related health issues for some time. Her condition had gradually declined in the days leading up to her death.The last rites were held in Bengaluru with close family, friends, and coworkers from the film industry in attendance.
