Revered as one of Korea’s most respected performers, Ahn’s funeral will witness some of the biggest names in the industry coming together to honour his legacy, reflecting the immense admiration he commanded throughout his decades-long career.

Lee Jung-Jae, Jung Woo-Sung to lead funeral tributes

Actors Jung Woo-sung, Lee Jung-Jae, Sul Kyung-Gu, Park Chul-Min, Yoo Ji-Tae, Park Hae-Il, Cho Woo-Jin, and Ju Ji-Hoon are among those paying their final respects to their senior and mentor. On the 8th, Artist Company officially confirmed to OSEN that Jung Woo-sung and Lee Jung-jae, who head the agency, will hold Ahn Sung-ki’s portrait and medal during the funeral scheduled for the 9th. The funeral procession will be led by Sul Kyung-gu, Park Chul-min, Yoo Ji-tae, Park Hae-il, Cho Woo-jin, and Ju Ji-hoon. Earlier reports claimed that Lee Jung-Jae's Squid Game co-star actor Lee Byung-hun would be part of the ceremony, however his name seems to be missing from new list.

The funeral has been set up at the Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital mortuary, with the burial scheduled to take place at Byeolgeurida in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province. He is survived by his wife, Oh So-young, and their two sons.In keeping with Ahn Sung-ki’s deep Catholic faith, a funeral mass will be held on the 9th at 8 a.m. at Myeongdong Cathedral in Jung-gu, Seoul. This will be followed by a film industry farewell ceremony at the same venue, where director Bae Chang-ho and actor Jung Woo-sung are set to deliver eulogies, celebrating the life and enduring legacy of one of Korean cinema’s greatest icons.

Ahn Sung-ki passed away at the age of 74 on the 5th at 9 a.m. at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. His death occurred six days after he collapsed at his home on the 30th of the previous month due to food becoming lodged in his throat, leaving him unconscious. He was surrounded by his family during his final moments.
