has always been a fan-favourite show. Starring Shivaji Satam, Aditya Srivastava and Dayanand Shetty, the crime drama show worked wonders on television. It was on air for a period of 21 years. Six years after the first season ended, CID returned with season two. During a recent exclusive interview with Zoom/ Telly Talk, Dayanand revealed what made CID so enduring for over two decades. Here's what the actor shared.
Dayanand Shetty on CID's successful run for 21 years
In an exclusive chat with us, Dayanand shared, "Initially, when Mr B.P, Singh started CID, the concept of a crime show on television... (at that time) there weren't many of these shows. There were some detective shows here and there; but not a crime, police-based show where you have a police team. So, he had this concept with Shivaji sir in mind, and they started it."The CID actor recalled that the show initially had 'wonderful writers' like Sridhar Raghavan, Sriram Raghavan, Rajat Arora and Prabal Baruah. "They wrote some brilliant stories. So, when the characters were not much known, you can say unknown also, the concept and story were the heroes of the show. Dayanand revealed that the characters became 'slightly bigger' than CID. The actor shared that people liked different characters such as "ACP Pradyuman, Abhijeet, Dr. Salunkhe, Freddie, Dhanu". He went on to add, "Then Pankaj, Sachin, Purvi, Shreya, Tarika, and a lot of characters joined in different times. Different cops we had, and people started associating with these characters."And it's because of the characters that people continued watching CID despite the show having some 'bad episodes'. "Then, somewhere over a period of 21 years, you tend to lose that shine in the story. We had some very bad episodes also, which were like bad stories. But because of the actors, because of their following, because of the love for those characters, people still watched it," admitted Dayanand.Dayanand Shetty on audience love for CID
On a concluding note, Dayanand stated that CID sustained for 21 years and made comeback after six years because audience's love for the show and its characters. "So it is basically the story and the characters put together, the ensemble cast, because of which the show ran for almost two decades," he said and signed off.Do you find this article useful?
