Kapoor will reportedly have a double role in Namit Malhotra's Ramayana. Ever since the makers dropped the first look teaser of Ranbir's character Lord Rama in the Hindu mythological epic, fans have remained intrigued to know more about the Nitesh Tiwari magnum opus. The upcoming two-part saga follows the story of Rama, from his life as a prince to his days in exile and ultimately becoming Maryada Purushottam. Also starring Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and others, the first part is set to release on Diwali this year. But before that, the smallest detail or reveal about the movie is enough to keep the trends high.
Ranbir Kapoor appears in double role in teaser
Soon after the teaser launch, reports started surfacing about Ranbir's possible double role. That's after eagle-eyed fans noticed certain details in the teaser titled Rama, which released on April 2. The video shows Lord Rama in multiple avatars. While he fights the demons in a large-scale battle sequence that's already become the talk of the town, he's even seen coming face-to-face with Lord Parshuram. The latter scene shows him catching a large golden axe, preferably belonging to him. This left viewers concluding that Ranbir will also be playing Lord Parshuram, one of the many avatars of Lord Vishnu. Infact, this was also confirmed by the actor himself.
Ranbir confirms the two roles
Speaking to Collider, Ranbir reiterated the multiple avatars of Lord Vishnu and stated that Lord Rama was one of them. He also stressed that Lord Parshuram was an avatar of Lord Vishnu before Rama came in the picture. Hence, getting to play both the roles was "fantastic."Ranbir further explained how he kept the nuances for both the avatars different. According to him, as an actor, he needs to not just get the right body language, but even internalise the character. "If you deeply understand the spirituality, the emotionality, of characters, everything starts from there," he said. For Ranbir, the primary task was to understand these characters in depth, and "what they stand for, what their motives are," to make the portrayal easy.
Playing the two roles is a 'responsibility'
For Ranbir, getting to play Lord Rama and even Lord Parshuram is a huge responsibility, as he believes it's not just acting, it's a representation of his own feelings and version of the two mythological characters. The intention, the faith, and the beliefs that I have as an actor and as an Indian, this story, towards Lord Rama, I think that's where it all begins," Ranbir said.It must be noted that Ranbir has previously played a double role in the 2022 film Shamshera. Ramayana would be his second such part.
