Taraka Rama Rao, also known as NT Rama Rao (NTR), received heartfelt tribute from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 103rd birth anniversary. Amid an ocean of wishes that the legendary actor, filmmaker and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh got, PM Modi's message stood out. Recalling him as a towering political figure and one of the iconic stars of Indian cinema, the Prime Minister said NTR's work in public life and entertainment continue to inspire generations. Born on May 28, 1923, NTR is one of the greatest icons in the history of Telugu cinema. NTR's superstar grandson Jr NTR also paid his respects at the NTR Ghat.
PM Modi's tribute to NTR
PM Narendra Modi took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and posted a heartfelt tribute to NTR. Through his message, he praised NTR for his commitment to the welfare of the common man, especially the poor and marginalised sections of society. He referred to the late leader's rule and political vision that had deep impact on Andhra Pradesh and earned him great respect among masses.

NTR's legacy in Indian cinema
NTR was immensely popular for his portrayals of Hindu mythological characters like Lord Krishna, Lord Rama and Karna in films. His charisma on screen and emotionally charged performances defined the golden period of Telugu cinema. Movies like Mayabazar, Lava Kusa, Dana Veera Soora Karna, Pathala Bhairavi and Gundamma Katha are timeless classics even today.Besides acting, NTR was also a producer, director and editor. He was awarded with several awards for his contribution to cinema including National Film Awards for movies like Thodu Dongalu, Seetharama Kalyanam and Varakatnam. He also gave memorable performances in the acclaimed films such as Raju Peda and Lava Kusa.
NTR's political career
After starring in over 300 films across a film career spanning decades, he turned to politics, and emerged to become one of the most successful political figures in the state. In the early 1980s, he formed the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and went on to change the politics of Andhra Pradesh.
