Sometimes,
the lines that stick with audiences the most are the ones that go through the most back-and-forth before being locked. That seems to be the case with Dhurandhar’s widely shared dialogue, “Darling Darling Dil Kyu Toda Ajao Pilo Dudh Soda”. Actor Gaurav Gera recently spoke about how this line didn’t come fully formed but was picked after trying out a bunch of different options. In a post shared on Instagram, he gave a small peek into that process, mentioning how director Aditya Dhar had sent him multiple variations ahead of the shoot. The idea was simple - to explore, test and then settle on what felt right.
Different Versions Of Darling, Darling
Gera mentioned that what audiences hear in the film wasn’t the only option being considered. In fact, there were quite a few versions floating around during prep. He was given these lines beforehand by the director itself
Aditya Dhar so he could try them out and get used to the rhythm.
Among the options were:“Mehfil me ghus gaya behen ka ghoda, peelo peelo aalam doodh soda”, “Ande se nikla chooza, kha lo kha lo cream kharbooza”, “Ek ne kiya dil break, to duji ko pilao aalam fruit shake”, “Ho gaye ishq me fail, pio pistol pineapple”, “Pio aamla ka maamla, banjao Juhi Chawla”, “Lohe par pad gaya hathoda, peelo aalam doodh soda."Take a look:
According to Gera, all these options were part of the prep work, but the final choice happened when the scene was actually being shot. That’s when “Darling Darling Dil Kyu Toda Ajao Pilo Dudh Soda” was locked. He also clarified something fans had been asking, who actually came up with the line. Gera credited
Aditya Dhar for the final version, saying the director made the call after all options were explored. The actor also said dialect coach Faiz Mohammed Khan set the tone to 'Darling Darling'.
Fans Curious About The Options Shared
After he posted the alternatives online, people quickly jumped into the conversation. Many tried to pick which line they liked the most, while others said the final one simply worked better.
There was also curiosity around how many versions usually get tested before something as small as a single dialogue makes it to the film. The reactions showed that audiences enjoy knowing what happens before the final cut. A fan wrote, "Darling Darling is always Iconic in Dhurandhar", while another wrote, "The way you @gauravgera had delivered the masterpiece dialogues in one of the best movies of your life, every line becomes lines of us.."Here are a few comments:
