hugely anticipated biopic on Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly aka the Bengal Tiger aka God Of The Off Side has finally gone on floors after years of speculations. Titled Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, the film stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead and will chronicle the inspiring journey of one of cricket's most iconic captains who taught Team India how to win. The actor recently confirmed the shoot commencement with a social media post, sharing his enthusiasm for portraying the Prince of Kolkata.
Rajkummar Rao begins shooting for Sourav Ganguly biopic
Taking to Instagram, Rajkummar Rao shared a glimpse of the film’s beginning, captioning his post, “And it begins… The one and only #DADA.” The picture accompanying the announcement confirmed that the film has officially started shooting at the historic Eden Gardens, a venue associated with Sourav Ganguly’s illustrious career.Take a look:
The project is being produced by Luv Ranjan under Luv Films and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. This marks a reunion between Motwane and Rao after their critically acclaimed collaboration on
Trapped. While the primary cast apart from Rao is yet to be announced, the film boasts a strong technical team. Cinematographer Siddharth Diwan, known for his work in Qala, Queen, and
Trapped, has been roped in to bring the story to life visually.
Rajkummar Rao's prep for Sourav Ganguly biopic
The film has been in the news for quite some time, particularly after Rajkummar’s physical transformation sparked concern among fans earlier this year. The actor later clarified that his changing appearance was part of his preparation for multiple projects, including the Sourav Ganguly biopic. He revealed that he prefers achieving transformations through hard work rather than relying on prosthetics as far as physically possible.
In a detailed note shared on his Instagram, Rao explained how he gained weight and altered his appearance for another biographical project before transitioning into the role of Ganguly. He spoke about consuming calorie-rich food and undergoing physical changes to suit the demands of his characters. He then added that he is working on shedding that weight to step convincingly into the shoes of the former Indian captain.On the work front, Rajkummar Rao was last seen in
Maalik and has an upcoming OTT release titled Toaster, co-starring Sanya Malhotra, set to premiere on April 15. He is also set to portray noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam in another biopic, the film for which Rao initially gained weight to look the part.
