According to a recent report in Bollywood Hungama, Rohit Shetty is planning to adapt the classic Amitabh Bachchan–Shashi Kapoor comedy
Do Aur Do Paanch in the format of Golmaal. A source to the entertainment portal shared that the Singham director has always been deeply influenced by vintage Hindi comedies and has consistently drawn inspiration from them while shaping the
Golmaal franchise. Earlier films from the series followed a similar pattern, Golmaal Returns took cues from
Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, Bol Bachchan was adapted from Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s
Golmaal (1979), and Golmaal 3 borrowed elements from
Khatta Meetha (1978). Continuing this creative approach, Rohit is now set to reinterpret
Do Aur Do Paanch as Golmaal Five, giving it a contemporary spin while retaining the essence of classic comedy.
Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar will take the centre stage in Golmaal 5
The source further revealed that Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar will play two central characters in the film. The OG Golmaal cast, which includes Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kemmu, and Arshad Warsi, will also join them. According to reports, Rohit Shetty created a completely new screenplay for the film, which is suited for today's audience while keeping the main theme of the original movie. The story is reported to be to based on a lighthearted clash between the two main characters, and in a "Tom and Jerry style" chase. The movie will be featuring a fresh screenplay and in view of how people interact in 2026.

Golmaal 5 is expected to be shot between March and June 2026, with a planned theatrical release in 2027. One of the biggest selling points of of the film is that it will mark the first time Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar collaborate in a full-fledged comedy setup.
