The
courtroom drama Haq was released in theatres on November 7, 2025. Starring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, the film made its OTT debut on January 2, 2026, on Netflix. The appreciation for the feature and its performance by its stars has continued to pour in after its digital debut. Overwhelmed by the messages, Yami took to social media to share her gratitude for the positive response to the film and especially her performance. Backed by Junglee Pictures in collaboration with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, Haq is inspired by a landmark Supreme Court case that shaped India’s judicial conscience.
Yami Gautam's reaction to continued love for Haq
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Yami wrote, "Extremely grateful for such a heartfelt response to HAQ in abundance. The love is truly gratifying for me, both, as an artist & a woman. Jai Hind #HAQ." Earlier this week, Kiara Advani had taken to her Instagram Story to praise Yami in Haq as well. Kiara stated, "Just watched Haq on netflix @yamigautam what a beautiful performance."
Set in the 1980s, Yami essays the role of a woman named Shazia Bano who stakes her ‘haq’ (right) after her husband, Abbas Khan (Emraan Hashmi), announces triple talaq and brings home another woman, Saira, played by debutante Vartika Singh. Written by Reshu Nath, Haq also stars Danish Husain as Shazia Bano's father and Sheeba Chaddha as Bela Jain. The Times Now review said of Yami's performance, "Yami Gautam challenges herself with every new film. Haq was filmed after she welcomed her son Vedavid. The maternal instincts give Shazia an emotional edge. The actress expresses through her body language. As Shazia, Yami transforms into a completely different person and empowers women to choose self-respect over toxic love. Yami’s monologues are crisp, aware and responsible. Instead of endorsing a character who falls short on confidence and respect in front of male members of society, she doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind, even if that’s louder than the other person’s ego."
