Sufi singer Satinder Sartaaj revealed lesser-known stories about making his superhit songs like Sai Ve and the blockbuster Jaiye Sajana from Dhurandhar 2. The artist appeared as the first guest as Times Now launched Baatein Dil Se, a new podcast by Times Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar. In a relaxed, candid chat, Sartaaj spoke about the simplicity with which he makes his music and presumably never looks back to see whether a song fared well with the audience or not. That's because he believes in devotion towards his craft, and does not care about rewards. Discussing his body of work so far, Sartaaj revealed details about how he creates his tracks, and more.
Satinder Sartaaj makes songs at home
The singer shared in the podcast that in the initial days of his career, he worked just like any other music maker, in a studio. But then things changed. "Initially, I did do recordings in the studio. Infact, we recorded Sai in a studio. But after 2014, whichever song I've released, be it Rang or any other, I've created it by myself. I've dubbed all of them at home," he said.
Sartaaj revealed that he's setup a tiny studio at his home. He's named the room '
Najamgah' which according to him, has a mic that takes 40-45 minutes to "warm-up" before he can proceed with recording a song. This is his current way of working. He sees this room as his workplace. And whatever he creates there, he sends across to people concerned, without looking back at the song again.
Not looking back after his songs release
"I just created Rang and sent it without following it up. People don't believe me when I say this. Even when the song with Tanishk (Bagchi) released, I was in Hyderabad for a show. He texted me and that's when I got to know that the song has been shot and released. They think it's not possible. But it's true. Neither do I search nor listen to my songs after they are out," Sartaaj added.

Alone and happy
Many might see the manner in which Satinder Sartaaj works, as a tad different from the general standards. But, the man from Hoshiarpur, Punjab has no qualms. He likes being alone even when he's surrounded by friends. "When I'm alone, I'm happier," he said.Explaining further, he stated, "I do enjoy my friends' company, but I like being alone. Even when I'm travelling, there's my driver and I'm alone in my car. There's no music, no books, and I only observe things around me, the fields, the road... One must enjoy the journey of life."
