Vijay's Jana Nayagan, has reportedly faced a major financial setback ahead of its theatrical release after the full version of the film was leaked online. The much-anticipated action drama, expected to be Vijay’s final film before his political innings, surfaced on piracy platforms in early April, first through clips and later as a full version. Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Faces Financial Blow After Leak; OTT Offer Drops
One of the biggest financial impacts was on the film’s digital rights. The makers had earlier secured a deal with a major OTT platform valued at around Rs 120 crore. However, following the leak and uncertainty around the film’s release, the platform withdrew from the agreement. When the producers approached other streaming services, the revised offers were reportedly much lower, around Rs 50 crore, leading to an estimated loss of Rs 70 crore. The leak also affected theatrical distribution discussions, with some distributors scaling back or reconsidering their investments.
Previously film distributor Tirupur Subramaniam spoke about the scale of the crisis. He described the situation as a major shock for the industry. Speaking to Puthiya Thalaimurai, he said the producers could face losses ranging between Rs 300 crore and Rs 400 crore. He added that the leak is likely to affect not only theatrical revenue but also OTT and satellite rights.
He also said that big-ticket releases featuring stars like Vijay, Rajinikanth, Suriya, and Ajith Kumar play a key role in supporting theatre business, making the incident even more damaging for exhibitors.
