Samuthirakani. Set in the Madras state of the 1950s, Kaantha is a period drama directed by Selvamani Selvaraj.

Sharing the teaser, Dulquer Salmaan posted "THE FIRST SPARK - OUT NOW!TRAILER ON NOV 6th!" Kanthaa released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. This period drama, which focuses on innovation in music, art form, and storytelling, is set to begin a new chapter in Dulquer Salmaan's film career. Kanthaa is said to be inspired by the life story of late Tamil actor MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, and Dulquer Salmaan is reportedly reprising the veteran actor's role. The film also stars Bhagyashri Borse. A previous teaser of the film Kaantha featured Dulquer's receiving instructions from Samuthirakani's a longtime mentor for the former.
The film was initially slated for a September 12 release will release in cinemas on 14 November. Dulquer Salmaan also produces it through his banner Wayfarer Films alongside Rana Daggubati of Spirit Media, Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese. Announcing the release date, Rana Daggubati posted wrote, "Diwali just got a whole lot more explosive! Kaantha will be lighting up theatres worldwide from November 14th! Wishing you all a happy Diwali and we’ll see you in the theatres very soon."
Selvamani Selvaraj is known for his documentary series The Hunt for Veerappan which won accolades after it released on Netflix last year. The film's technical team includes cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, composer Jhanu Chanthar, and art director Ramalingam. Thamizh Prabha is the additional dialogue writer and story consultant, as well as additional screenwriter along with Sri Harsha Rameshwaram.
