In good news for WhatsApp users, the Meta-owned popular instant messaging platform is reportedly working on a major update. As per reports, the Meta app is developing support for group calls on WhatsApp Web, which means users may be able to start and join group voice or video calls directly from a browser. This is an important step because WhatsApp Web still feels limited compared to the Android and iOS apps, especially when it comes to calling features. While WhatsApp had hinted at web calling improvements last year, group calling support was said to be in the early stage back then. Now, the Meta-owned app is reportedly improving the calling system to make it fully compatible with group chats on the web version.According to a report by WABetaInfo,
a website that tracks WhatsApp, all group members should be able to join a group call, no matter which device they are using. In simple terms, whether someone is on mobile, desktop app or the web client, they should still be able to participate in the same group call without issues.Gemini vs ChatGPT: Here Are 5 Simple Hacks I Tried To Create Best AI Images For Free Like the mobile apps, WhatsApp Web group calls may also come with a participant limit. Report suggests WhatsApp could allow up to 32 participants but this will only be confirmed once the feature officially rolls out. This limit is expected to keep call quality stable and avoid interruptions. That said, WhatsApp may initially introduce group calls with a lower limit such as 8 or 16 participants beofre expanding it later.Along with group calling, WhatsApp is also said to be developing call links for WhatsApp Web. This feature could let users generate a shareable link directly from a group chat, making it easier to invite others to join a call instantly. Users may get the option to choose between a voice call or a video call, similar to what’s already available on smartphones.Another feature in the works is scheduled calls for both individual chats and group chats. This could help users plan meetings in advance. Scheduled calls may include a name and description to explain the purpose, along with expected start and end timing. However, it’s important to note that scheduling won’t automatically start the call instead, it will create an event so participants know when the call is planned. For now, these WhatsApp Web calling features are still under development and are expected to roll out in a future update.
